Christmas Cocktails

A few weeks ago I hosted a cocktail party for some local friends of ours in business. They all run their own business and we thought it might be nice to introduce them to one another as well as check out each others products for the Christmas season, wind down with some drinks and talk (or not talk) about work.

I am so excited about Christmas as I feel a little more organised now, thanks to the these awesome ladies who shared some of their amazing products with everyone.

Last Summer

Firstly I should thank everyone that sent me messages and comments with links to pleated skirts after my recent post (here) about my hunt for a light coloured skirt. Although I have still not found the pleated skirt that meets my strict criteria I was excited and ever so grateful that you all assisted me in what is an ongoing search! With your continued help I am sure it won’t be long until I have found it! In other news Finding Femme and I’s favourite shoes are back in stock - thank goodness that search is over! Read all about that saga here.

The Wardrobe Clear Out

Goldfields Girl wearing leopard print scarf, brown gold trench and black wedge heels

Since arriving home from our recent overseas trip I decided to purge my wardrobe of anything I hadn’t worn in a long time. I’m not sure if I was inspired from staying apartments that were clean and tidy and not cluttered with all the things you seem to collect in life, or if it was from living with the limited wardrobe in my suitcase. Either way, within days of coming home I had a huge pile of clothing thrown in a corner in preparation to go to the local op shop.

The Shared Maxi Skirt

Goldfields Girl styling all black pleated maxi skirt, Moschino belt and Chanel bag

The best thing about sharing a wardrobe with someone is that it means you have twice the clothing with half the budget!

Ballarat Cup

The Goldfields Girl at fashion on the field 2016 wearing h&m dress with navy vintage hat and bag

I got home two days ago after nearly a month away on holidays and one of the first things that my sister tells me is that Review have given her tickets to the Ballarat Cup and that I will be attending as her plus one. No pressure there!

My Baby's First Birthday: Smiles and Laughs

Goldfields Girl with her baby at their Peter Rabbit first birthday party

Here is the next post on Roo’s first birthday. If you missed the first post with pictures of the table setting and amazing cake, you can view the post HERE

The theme was Peter Rabbit / Beatrix Potter inspired. We had originally planned to have a ‘wild’ theme but after much pinning on pinterest I realized my vision relied heavily on an outdoor location with autumn colours. The weather has been too unpredictable to have anything at a park and because of all the recent rain most parks are pretty and green. A Peter Rabbit theme would be better suited to the current spring colours. I reluctantly hosted the event at home hoping the weather would be warm enough to be outside under our pergola. It started out as a sunny day then clouded over and poured rain at the end of the party, phew!

My Baby's First Birthday: Cake and Cookies

One year ago I never thought I would be racing around at the last minute trying to throw together Roo's 1st birthday party. My pre-baby self imagined a life where I would have a perfectly executed party, organised well in advance with a home baked cake made by me, pinterest worthy decorations, a new dress and a smiling baby. Ha, what a laugh. Although we were able to still tick most of the boxes, the new me is getting better at letting go of things.

Semi-dried Flower Crown - My DIY attempt!

I am a control freak. I really struggle to let go of things and have people do them for me. Being a perfectionist and being frugal, I absolutely hate it when I pay for someone to do something that I could have done myself with better quality results or attention to detail.

The Lip Lab - Ballarat

So last night all my dreams came true! I had the opportunity to design my own signature lipstick. How many countless hours have I spent in search of the perfect lipstick to match an outfit? I can gladly say my searching days are over thanks to the opening of The Lip Lab Ballarat.

Bendigo Fashion Festival - Race Day

Have you ever been to an event where you just felt completely out of place? Admittedly it doesn’t happen to me often but when it does, I find it really difficult to manage my anxiety. I recently went to an event where I felt very out of place.

A few weeks ago my sister and I won a competition to attend the Bendigo Fashion Festival Raceday Luncheon. I had completely forgotten that I had entered the competition and we found out that we had won in the week prior to the event. The event was also not long after my stint of illness, being unable to eat and “letting myself go” (see my previous post here).

MSWF Ballarat Cocktail Party

A few weeks back on a Friday night I attended the ‘Behind the Scenes Cocktail Party’ for the Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Regional Extension in Ballarat.

The night allowed guests the opportunity to attend the trunk show before the weekend commenced and meet and shop directly from local designers as well as retail stores that stock high fashion. The highlight of the night was going back stage and chatting to stylists, such as the talented Bec Cole, about the show production, the garments and styling.

MSFW Ballarat Runway

This weekend Ballarat hosted a regional series for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW). The only regional city to host events with MSFW, Ballarat went all out running a number of functions over the weekend. Attending fashion week is not new to me as I have been lucky enough as a teenager to have my Dad purchase the occasional ticket to fashion week and kindly drive some girlfriends and I to Melbourne to attend a show. Dad would attend the show too, then we would discuss everything from the garments, styling and production on the long drive home.

Seasonal Travel

We have been doing a significant amount of travel of late but I don't have any photos to share from my travels. My sister is my main photographer which is awesome, and although we spend most of our time together, unfortunately she can't accompany me on every excursion as a personal photographer (sponsors welcomed!). I do a fair amount of travel especially accompanying The Captain on work trips. This last fortnight has been non-stop travel around the state.

The Captain's Birthday

A few weeks ago The Captain turned 40. As mentioned in my previous post, the unlucky timing of his birthday meant I was not in the best of health for partying.

My No Food Diet - A Fuga das Galinhas

I thought I would share some pictures of me from a casual Sunday afternoon visit from my sister. This is me with natural hair that was probably not washed, brushed or styled for a few days. It has that natural curl that has been slept in and gone flat and stringy. Although these fun pictures are not highly glamorous (ok who has time for glamour with an infant?!) the pictures are in no way a true reflection of the serious unbrushed, unwashed, no makeup, red eyed, swollen faced look I have really been rocking for about a month now.

World Breastfeeding Week 2016

This week it’s World Breastfeeding Week. To be honest I had never heard of World Breastfeeding Week until recently as photos and events have been appearing in my social media feed. The week is organised by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA – not to be confused with WADA, haha!!) which aims to encourage and support breastfeeding. Each year they have a different theme and this year it has been based on educating the public on how breastfeeding is important to achieving global goals on sustainable development. You can find out more about it here.

Ballarat Begonia Festival 2016

After all this time I still have so many unpublished blog photos including more maternity pictures. I was debating whether to bother continuing to publish maternity photos but after viewing my blog statistics today I found only yesterday, someone managed to find my blog by Googling “I can’t find anything to wear when pregnant”. This also made me laugh as I had always thought (much to the amusement of my husband) that I was the only person who used whole sentences when doing a search. Most referrals from Google come from searches with only 2 key words (usually “pregnancy” and “fashion”).

No Laughing Matter

Here are some photos from when I was nearing the end of my pregnancy last year. It was not long after this that I was quite ill and ended up spending some time in hospital.

At the same time as being ill, we were in the middle of a kitchen renovation and I had a to-do list that seemed unending. Although I was discharged from hospital after a few days, I still spent a number of painful weeks recovering. I was in the most pain I had ever felt and I was unable to do anything. When I say that I was unable to do anything I really mean not a single little thing. Just breathing had been absolute agony. Talking, coughing and laughing were all painful events I had to avoid. I couldn’t move, not even to turn over in bed.

A quick trip to Timor

The last couple of weeks have been very busy. The Captain has been travelling for work (which he does regularly) and bubba and I have been joining him. This has meant that we have been able to see lots of country Victoria in the autumn. Travelling around country Victoria is one of my favourite things to do. I’m not sure what I love so much about travelling the countryside, whether it is because being out in nature is so relaxing or whether it’s the adventure of discovering something new

Stolen Goods

Last week I had my car broken into. Actually – that is not entirely true, I had left my car unlocked and the offender simply helped themselves to the contents of my car.

Workwear - Restyling

Today is a throwback to when I was pregnant. Looking back at these pictures makes me miss being pregnant so much!

I bought this simple cotton dress and wore it repeatedly throughout my pregnancy in a variety of ways. Here are a selection of pictures on how I styled it 3 different ways (jacket, vest, pink jacket).

Art Deco Pool Party

Finding Femme invited me to an Art Deco Pool Party being held at the beautiful Mooramong Estate to finish off the summer.  I love visiting and supporting National Trust properties as much as I love the chance to dress up, however I still needed convincing as I knew the weather would be sweltering and as much as I love the Gatsby Theme and dressing up, the 1920/30s’s does NOT suit me, especially my post baby self. Trying to sort out a hot weather nursing/swimming friendly outfit just seemed like too much effort.

Today’s pictures have me cracking up laughing. Oh how my world has changed!

Finally a blog post - Baby News!

Finally a blog post!!

So, I guess I owe you all an update. I have had a beautiful baby boy!  I still have a huge backlog of unpublished maternity style posts for you and I will attempt to get through some of them.
