My Baby's First Birthday: Cake and Cookies

One year ago I never thought I would be racing around at the last minute trying to throw together Roo's 1st birthday party. My pre-baby self imagined a life where I would have a perfectly executed party, organised well in advance with a home baked cake made by me, pinterest worthy decorations, a new dress and a smiling baby. Ha, what a laugh. Although we were able to still tick most of the boxes, the new me is getting better at letting go of things.

Firstly the cake, I am still plagued by guilt that I (or perhaps we – why should The Captain be excluded?) did not make Roo’s first birthday cake. We did manage to make some yummy pumpkin soup for lunch though. I enlisted the help of Jhoomur from Pretty Special Cakes to make a cake and cookies while I wasted many hours in The Reject Shop and Kmart focusing on decorations instead. I also chose to spend any spare moment in the week prior to the party searching every op shop and antique store in the region to find a vintage high chair, rather than finding a party dress.

We went with a Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit) theme which suited our garden in its spring bloom. There are so many pictures they cannot all fit into one blogpost. The second blogpost with more pics should be out within the week. Enjoy the photos!
