An update on my home interior!

This week we had some new rugs arrive for our floors. It has been the most exciting thing to happen at our house in quite a while. Although we have lived here for two years, the last work we did on the house was the kitchen, which was when Roo was born.
Since that time nothing has been happening, we have not altered anything nor have we decorated, unless you call filling every available space with some sort of children’s toy decorating. On that note, is it just me or do children’s toys actually multiply overnight?

Living in a house that has not been properly decorated is not a terrible thing, but the house doesn’t feel homely. You don’t really notice until you begin decorating and you feel like the house is somehow warmer and friendlier. I was hoping to have new chairs and drapes before our next bub arrived however at this stage it is the rugs for now.

So we have spent the last few nights just laying on the rugs. Roo, who is used to floor boards, loves them. He is not used to this new thing in the room and it has become quite a novelty. I am even more motivated to finish organizing and decorating the rest of the house after seeing how these rugs bring life to the rooms. Now that I am finishing up work and can focus my attention on the house I feel as though it is all I can think about.

I have been getting the assistance from an interior decorator that is a friend of the family. When my Dad used to build houses he would hire her to do the decorating. The Captain and I sought her assistance when we first painted the interior. We realised that I am too much of a perfectionist and weigh so much on my decision-making that I become completely indecisive and seek the opinion of everyone and anyone and still never make a decision. The fastest and easiest thing to do was to just ask someone else to do it for us.

Of course after the decorater gave me the paint colours it only took a few days before I was having second thoughts and asking everyone what they thought of the choice and if they were ok. As soon as we had painted though – I knew it was the right decision – the house looked amazing. It was the same with the kitchen, after getting her advice I stressed over the choice of door handles and colour of the benchtops but now completed – I would not have it any other way.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is pass the responsibility on to someone else. I cannot imagine the hours of time we have saved from visiting tile shops, paint stores, testing paints on the wall. If I had not asked for help I suspect we would be living here without a single change to the house at all! So although our progress seems slow, it is still progress!
